High Atlas — Imlil
Akioud, 4 030 m — three days
The serious one. Akioud is reached by a genuine scrambling ridge with sustained exposure and moves that want a rope — the only 4,000 m peak here I will not take a first-time mountain walker onto. Previous scrambling experience required.

Day by day
- Day 1 5–6 h 3 207 m
Imlil to the refuge
Mizane approach to the Toubkal refuges. Over dinner we go through the ridge, the rope work and the turn-around time.
- Day 2 10–12 h 4 030 m
The Akioud ridge
Into the Ouanoukrim cirque, then onto the Akioud ridge proper. Continuous grade-2/3 scrambling on mostly sound rock, short-roped through the harder steps, with real drops on both sides. A long, committing day — we turn around at a fixed hour whatever the summit is doing.
